In the United States, 16 million units of blood are transfused per year from about 5% of the eligible population. For National Blood Donor Month, consider joining in and helping someone in your community. After all, blood is not only needed for emergency crises, disasters, and accidents. If you know someone with cancer, someone who is pregnant, or someone who has sickle cell disease, then you know someone who may need a blood transfusion.
